Charlotte Harbor Visitor and Convention Bureau needs volunteers assist with two projects: 1) working with the Charlotte Harbor Hospitality Association, and 2) to help develop the new Translation program. The volunteer will prepare materials and mail meeting notices for the Hospitality Association and stock the brochure rack. The Translation program job consists of contacting local hotels, restaurants, attractions, and retail outlets and explains the purpose of the program. The volunteer would assign an appropriate translator and notify the translator of the assignment, and assist in the follow-up with the business and the translator to determine the progress and the quality of the experience. Other general office duties may be assigned. Minimum time commitment is 4 to 8 hours per week.
SCORE is looking for an office volunteer to process client requests for counseling by phone or in person. Gathers basic information from clients seeking counseling. Responds to calls left on voice mail. Also to monitor office supplies, answer phones, respond to email, distribute first class mail to volunteers. May also be asked to prepare bank deposit slips and notify Treasurer of deposits. Keeps minutes of monthly Chapter meetings. Computer skills required. Office hours are flexible.
Meals on Wheels of Charlotte County needs drivers to deliver meals to seniors and others who cannot get out to get their food. Routes are in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. Volunteer as little as one day a week.
Good Friends, a reading program targeted at first and second graders, seeks new volunteers to help children read. Time commitment is one hour, once a week, throughout the school year. The program provides reading materials based on reading levels, and ongoing training for tutors. Tutoring sites are elementary schools and libraries.
CARE is seeking volunteers to help victims of domestic violence for the Volunteer Hospital Response Team. There is a critical need for female volunteers to respond to night and weekend requests from area hospitals in the aftermath of domestic violence or sexual assault. Volunteers offer support, discuss procedures, answer questions and advocate for survivor’s rights and well being. They provide information about C.A.R.E. and other resources available to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors. Extensive training and first-hand supervised experiences are provided. Orientation is scheduled for September.
Good Samaritans of Charlotte County, a food pantry in Punta Gorda, needs help with a data entry project. The volunteer would work anytime during the normal business hours of the pantry, Monday thru Friday from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. This is a temporary position.,
