A new scan system in Sarasota and Venice is capturing important data for future planning, thanks to a grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

Q: Why is Senior Friendship Centers implementing the new swipe card system for Center participants?

A: The new system will enable us to better track the number of people using the Centers and the activities in which they participate, providing more accurate date to use in strategic and program planning, and in application for grants. It also will provide greater security for participants.

The competition for grant funding is more challenging  than ever in current economic times and the ability to document our services as accurately as possible will help us remain competitive when applying for grant funding.

Q: How does it work?

A. When you enter the Center, you will be issued a card, similar to what you might use at a grocery store of gym. You will swipe your card through a scanner anduse the touch screen to indicate the programs and activities in which you are participating for that day. It's simple to use and will help us tract services used. Your card will function as a key to access friendship Center programs and activities. There is no fee for the card, but you will be responsible for bringing it with you to the Center.
