A “Breakfast of Champions” will celebrate Senior Friendship Centers volunteers in Sarasota and Venice in November.

Volunteers at Senior Friendship Centers in Venice will be honored Friday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at The Kathleen K. Catlin Friendship Center, 2350 Scenic Drive, and on Friday, Nov. 12,  volunteers at Senior Friendship Centers in Sarasota will be celebrated from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at The Friendship Center, 1888 Brother Geenen Way.

“Senior Friendship Centers' volunteers truly are our champions --  they are the every-day heroes who serve in nearly every aspect of this non-profit organization. They make it possible to provide  an umbrella of programs and services that extends throughout the aging process, including health and wellness and supportive aging services.

Last year, 1500 men and women donated more than 132,000 hours of service with an in-kind value of nearly $2.5 million. From volunteer physicians, dentists, pharmacists and medical personnel at our clinics, to the people who deliver meals to the home-bound, serve as friendly visitors… they help in our senior centers, provide much needed support for caregivers, and champion our cause improving the quality of life and health for older adults in our communities every day.

Since our founding in 1973, through May 2010, volunteers have contributed  1,132,223 hours valued at more than $25,503,482.
