(Naples, FL) – The Jewish Federation of Collier County honored the Friendship Health Clinic with the 2011 Annual Human Needs Award on Tuesday, December 13 at the Federation offices. The Friendship Health Clinic was nominated by volunteer physician, Dr. Larry Harris, having a firsthand perspective about the important work taking place at the Clinic.
This is the eighth year the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Collier County has made this grant award to deserving Collier County human services, health services and educational organizations, serving vulnerable populations.
Ann Jacobson, Chair of the Community Relations Committee was on hand to extend the award and congratulations. Also in attendance was newly appointed Local Leadership Board chair, Carl Westman, Esq., Betty Gamel, clinic director, and volunteer physician, Dr. Felix Krock.
“What an honor to receive this prestigious award,” said Carl Westman. “The volunteer doctors of the Friendship Health Clinic give so generously to this community, it is especially nice to see their good works are recognized and appreciated.”
With the award came a gift of $3,000 that will be used to expand the number of patients seen in the clinic through co-pay assistance and much needed supplies.
The Friendship Health Clinic was established in 1986 by nonprofit organization, Senior Friendship Centers. The Clinic is staffed largely by volunteer, retired doctors, dentists and nurses dedicated to helping older adults live with dignity and wellness in Collier County. Funded through support from private foundations and individual contributions, the Friendship Health Clinic had approximately 5,000 visits in 2011 and serves the population who are 50+ and low-income.
